In 2010, Carrollton City Schools spearheaded an effort to enhance its
vision and mission by exploring the addition of a commitment statement that would capture the essence of what our school system is all about. The process was one of collaboration – school officials, teachers, students and the community at large participated in selecting a statement from a list of five previously decided by a smaller stakeholder group.
"Upholding a Tradition of Excellence since 1886" is a variation of a slogan the school system has used periodically over the years. While the statement itself can mean different things to different people, the overall theme is truly reflective of our culture.
Interestingly, student participation determined the final outcome. Before that input, "A Community Committed to Excellence" held a slight lead over the winning statement. Once Carrollton High School students voted, "Upholding a Tradition of Excellence since 1886" pulled way ahead. There was also student participation from Carrollton Junior High School and Carrollton Middle School.
Below is the final vote breakdown:
Winner: Upholding a Tradition of Excellence since 1886 (786 votes - 29%)
